Free Compressed Air Leak Assessments through UNI’s IWRC for Small Businesses in Iowa

Posted By IAMU, Tuesday, April 6, 2021
The Iowa Waste Reduction Center (IWRC) at the University of Northern Iowa is providing free compressed air leak detection assessments during its energy assistance audits for Iowa small businesses. Through this program, the IWRC will conduct a comprehensive, on site energy assessment analyzing all aspects of your business’s energy use including a compressed air leak audit, facility lighting analysis, and a building envelope inspection.

Leaks in your compressed air system can result in significant energy loss, and potentially cost your business thousands of dollars. The IWRC uses an ultrasonic leak detector that identifies leaks and quantifies air loss. This reading, along with an assessment of the pressure of your compressed air line, hours of operation, and your facility’s electrical energy costs allow for an accurate calculation of energy loss and associated costs. During the inspection, identified leaks are marked with a specific tag number that documents the magnitude and location of the leak, and pressure of the line.

After the on-site energy assessment, the IWRC team will prepare a report outlining the amount of energy being lost, potential energy savings based on your annual operation hours and your facility’s energy costs and an estimated return on investment of energy saving recommendations. IWRC will also provide you with on-site technical assistance and educational materials specifically tailored to the needs of your business. To date, IWRC has completed 27 energy reduction assessment and identified a potential savings of over $108,000.
