WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop offers valuable classroom and hands-on training for electric utility personnel. Utility workers, instructors, and product presenters will join together to share the latest industry information.

WORKSHOP TOPICS
Participants will rotate through small-group stations covering:
• EzSpotr pole setter operation
• Voltage Regulator fundamentals and operation
• Underground cable preparation and terminations (200/600 amp applications)
• Substation switching/circuit restoration
• Underground system troubleshooting scenarios

APPRENTICESHIP TESTING & EVALUATIONS
Apprentices may take their written year-end exams and hands-on skills evaluations on Wednesday, September 9, starting at 8 a.m. This is limited to the first 6 apprentices who register. Pre-registration is required — contact Meredith Hibbs at mhibbs@iamu.org

OJT HOURS
Apprentices will receive 16 OJT Hours for attendance (OH and URD hours).

This journey-level certification is granted through the National Center for Construction Education and Research. IAMU is an accredited assessment center. OSHA’s updated crane standard REQUIRES that operators of lifting equipment be trained, evaluated, and tested in order to obtain re-certification.

Re-certification is required every 5 years. In order to re-certify you must retake and pass both the practical examination and the computerized test with an 80% score for each. NCCER policy prohibits completing the re-certification process more than 180 days before the expiration date of your certification. Check your NCCER account for the expiration date of your certification.
There is no grace period after your certification expires.

Celebrating Three Years: Grant Hatterman and Dave Eaton
June 2026 | IAMU Milestones
This month, we're proud to recognize two valued IAMU team members each celebrating three years of service.
Grant Hatterman, Associate Network Administrator, has spent three years keeping IAMU's technology infrastructure running reliably, supporting the systems that allow our team to serve members across the state.
Dave Eaton, Regional Safety Coordinator, has dedicated his three years to one of our most critical missions: the safety of Iowa's utility workers. His contributions to safety training, coordination, and outreach directly support the well-being of municipal utility employees throughout Iowa.

IAMU is pleased to announce our upcoming Gas Construction Workshop: Deactivation & Abandonment of Mains & Service Lines, scheduled for June 16–17, 2026, at IAMU Headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa.

This hands-on, two-day workshop is specifically designed for gas personnel involved in the planning, preparation, and field execution of gas main and service line projects. Attendance is strictly limited to 15 participants — register early to secure your spot.

This webinar clarifies OSHA’s regulation that requires an annual review of assurance that qualified crew members are complying with electrical safety related work practices found in 1910.269, 1926 Subpart V, NFPA 70E and NFPA 70B. This annual requirement is management’s responsibility for compliance and ensures that employees are properly equipped and trained to complete assigned job tasks.
This one-hour pre-recorded webinar will be sent out once registration is received.

Sign up today! NCCER Re-Certification May 26th-28th  and NCCER Certification July 13th-17th 

The Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities holds both initial certification and re-certification classes for mobile crane operators at our location. This journey-level certification is granted through the National Center for Construction Education and Research. IAMU is an accredited assessment center. OSHA’s updated crane standard REQUIRES that operators of lifting equipment be trained, evaluated, and tested in order to obtain re-certification.

Re-certification is required every 5 years. In order to re-certify you must retake and pass both the practical examination and the computerized test with an 80% score for each. NCCER policy prohibits completing the re-certification process more than 180 days before the expiration date of your certification. Check your NCCER account for the expiration date of your certification.
There is no grace period after your certification expires.

• Each participant will need to bring their PPE for the practical exam: High Viz clothing, hardhat, safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, and long pants

This annual requirement is management’s responsibility for compliance and ensures that employees are properly equipped and trained to complete assigned job tasks.
