The day was filled with training, motivation, and information geared specifically toward women safety professionals. IAMU is proud of our women in safety staff members that help our members each day, Jackie Roberts – SGWC Regional Safety Coordinator, Edith Hodgell – SGNC Regional Safety Coordinator, Margret Meade – Safety Outreach Coordinator, Sandy Jordan – SGEI Regional Safety Coordinator, and unable to attend since she was helping her members Amanda Hickman – NWISG Regional Safety Coordinator. One of our own safety professionals, Margret Meade was selected for this year’s 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award, congratulations Margret. Her expertise, knowledge, and mentorship has helped so many go home health at the end of the day.

Tim Whipple has returned to IAMU as our General Counsel. He joins Alex Cutchey, Director of Government Affairs, to provide IAMU with high-caliber, comprehensive legal services. Tim will oversee federal issues and regulatory issues, while Alex will focus on legislative issues. Both will work with the Iowa Utilities Board, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Iowa Public Information Board, as well as the Governor’s Office, Ombudsman’s Office, and Auditor’s Office. Members may contact either of the attorneys with legal questions or concerns, and the two will determine who will handle the matter. Tim previously worked for IAMU for almost five years. Prior to starting at IAMU he held legal positions as a Legal Counsel with Iowa Legislative Services Agency, and General Counsel with Iowa Economic Development Authority. Tim returns to IAMU after most recently serving as General Counsel for MidAmerican Energy Company. He attended the Drake University Law School. Alex joined IAMU in November 2020 as Director of Government Affairs. Prior to IAMU, he served as attorney and lobbyist for the Iowa Utilities Board. He also was previously a Federal Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Celeste F. Bremer, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Iowa, and clerked for law firms in both Iowa and Minnesota. Alex attended the Drake University Law School and has an MBA from Drake University College of Business & Public Administration.

IAMU welcomes new staff member Joey Cuellar as one of our new Regional Safety Coordinators for the newly formed Safety Group East Iowa. Joey started on September 1st and has an extensive background in Occupational Safety & Health. Joey holds a Master of Science Degree in Occupational Safety & Health and enjoys being part of a team that helps keep people safe at work. “The best part of my job is working with people from all walks of life to create a safe working environment for the benefit of all employees.” Joey is originally from Iowa and recently moved back after spending the last few years in San Antonio, Texas.

IAMU welcomes two additions to our talented staff, Edith Hodgell and Jackie Roberts.

IAMU welcomes new staff member Edith Hodgell as our Regional Safety Coordinator for the newly formed Safety Group North Central. Edith started her position on July 20th and has a background in safety, food safety, and chemical handling.
She worked in food service as a regional representative for a corporate office, in food safety and quality assurance at a slaughter facility, as a pest control operator, and as EHS at an R&D cellulosic ethanol plant. Edith has her Advanced Safety
Certificate from the National Safety Council, is a first aid/CPR trainer and has been teaching weekly safety training classes for the past 5 years. She is well versed in many of the challenges our members face, including fall protection, confined
space entry, LOTO, respiratory protection and silica. She has lived in Iowa her entire life and is a self-described “farm kid.” Edith currently lives in north west Iowa (Pocahontas) and went to college in NE Iowa (Fayette – Upper Iowa University),
and is moving to north central Iowa (tbd), so she is looking forward to getting out to meet with all of her clients in the area she drove thru all those times. With customer service skills, regulation interpretation knowledge, and a little dose
of fun, we feel that Edith will be an asset in this position.

IAMU welcomes new staff member Jackie Roberts as one of our Regional Safety Coordinators for the newly formed Safety Group West Central. Jackie started her position on July 31st and has an extensive background in Safety and Environmental,
working in the Ethanol Industry. With many certifications like SHEP, CSHO, SSH, she initiated and chaired the Iowa Renewable Fuels Safety Taskforce and served on the Iowa Governors Safety & Health Advisory Council for many years. She is well
versed in many of the challenges our members face in Fall Protection, Confined Space, LO/TO, BBP, Electrical, Respiratory and Silica. With professionalism, customer service skills, and a solid OSHA background Jackie is well suited for this position.
Jackie has lived in Iowa for 28 years, she enjoys traveling, riding bicycles, and spending time with her family and friends.

Amanda Hickman has joined the IAMU staff as a Regional Safety Coordinator and will be working on the new Northwest Iowa Safety Group (NWISG) contract. Amanda has a background in health, environment, and safety. Her most recent previous position was as a DOT & Safety Coordinator in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. With her background and personality, she is an ideal fit for IAMU and the cities of the NWISG. NWISG consists of Sioux Center, Sheldon, Orange City, Rock Rapids, Inwood, Akron, Hinton, and Remsen. The cities in the Northwest Iowa region will be her daily reporting locations, but other members may see her from time to time in the IAMU office for meetings.
