OSHA is committed to protecting the health and safety of America’s workers and workplaces during these unprecedented times. The agency will be issuing a series of alerts designed to keep workers safe. Ensuring adequate ventilation throughout the work environment can help to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. Employers should work with a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) professional to consider steps to optimize building ventilation. An HVAC professional can ensure that the ventilation system is operating as intended. The following tips can help reduce the risk of exposure to the coronavirus: - Encourage workers to stay home if they are sick.
- Ensure all HVAC systems are fully functional, especially those shut down or operating at reduced capacity during the pandemic.
- Remove or redirect personal fans to prevent blowing air from one worker to another.
- Use HVAC system filters with a Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) rating of 13 or higher, where feasible.
- Increase the HVAC system’s outdoor air intake. Open windows or other sources of fresh air where possible.
- Be sure exhaust air is not pulled back into the building from HVAC air intakes or open windows.
- Consider using portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) fan/filtration systems to increase clean air, especially in higher-risk areas.
- When changing filters, wear appropriate personal protective equipment. ASHRAE recommends N95 respirators, eye protection (safety glasses, goggles, or face shields), and disposable gloves.
- Make sure exhaust fans in restrooms are fully functional, operating at maximum capacity, and are set to remain on.
- Encourage workers to report any safety and health concerns.

Do you want your customers to pay attention to, trust, and act upon the
communications that you provide? Of course, you do. Well then, you
should strive to deliver clear, consistent, creative, and compelling
messages and information. Guarantee effective, engaging communications by designating a content manager to own your communication efforts. What is a content manager?A
content manager is someone who oversees the content creation and
dissemination process. The content manager ensures no tasks get
overlooked and that content comes together and is delivered on time. Job responsibilities:- Works with your team to determine topics to cover, making sure to include a wide variety of areas that are relevant to your customers and other stakeholders.
- Creates a detailed editorial calendar that outlines topics, duties, and due dates.
- Assigns communication project tasks to writer(s), designers(s), photographer(s), and/or videographer(s).
- Monitors the workflow of the communications team.
- May
or may not be responsible for various aspects of content creation
(writing, editing, designing, proofing, taking photos, making social
media posts, and/or shooting video).
- Oversees communication delivery to the intended audience.
If
you don’t already have someone designated as the content manager, look
into who would best be suited to handle the responsibilities. If you or
your content manager needs any advice or direction, you can reach out to
Jen Cronin, IAMU’s contracted communications support consultant. Jen
can be reached at jcronin@jcronincom.com or by phone at 616-610-2546.

The Iowa Utilities Board (IUB) will launch its new company and contact
web application “IUB 24/7” on November 16. The web application will be
available on all platforms at any time and will allow utilities,
companies, and stakeholders to easily manage company contact
information, access the electronic filing system (EFS), and communicate
company updates to the IUB.
Rollout of IUB 24/7 will take place
over several weeks, with registered users creating individual user
accounts the first two weeks, followed by creation of company profiles
during designated weeks starting December 7. Each company or utility’s
regulatory contact will be preregistered and receive an email invitation
with instructions on how to complete their IUB 24/7 user account.
Here is the planned rollout schedule by user group:
November 16-25: Registered Users (User Account Setup) December 7-11: Investor-owned Utilities (Company Profile Setup) December 14-18: Rural Electric Cooperatives (Company Profile Setup) December 21-January 8: Municipalities (Company Profile Setup) January 11-February 5: Telecommunications (Company Profile Setup)
In
connection with the November 16 launch, all EFS users will need to
update their username and password in IUB 24/7 to create a single
sign-on that will work in both EFS and IUB 24/7.
We’re excited
for the launch of IUB 24/7 and look forward to working with utilities,
companies, and stakeholders on this transition.
For assistance with IUB 24/7 registration, please contact itsupport@iub.iowa.gov.
