Do you have a customer who has recently done a significant energy efficiency or renewable project that you would like to recognize? IAMU would like to help recognize these customers for their efforts in conjunction with the IAMU Energy Conference November 4-5 in Des Moines. It’s a good opportunity to recognize and publicize a valued customer in your community. Based upon your nominations, IAMU will select up to five customers, state-wide, to be recognized for this award.
The awards will be presented at the Energy Conference but you may give the award to your customer back home in your community. IAMU will also publicize the awards in the Informer and notify APPA, APGA and AWWA. There is NO cost to your utility for these awards.
To submit a nomination, please email energyconference@iamu.org or FAX (515) 289-2499 the following information:
- Name of Utility and contact person, with email and phone number
- Brief description of customer’s project and why it is significant
Please return your nomination no later than September 30. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Kaplan (skaplan@iamu.org) or (515) 289-1999.

IAMU will be holding the 3rd Annual Energy Conference November 4-5, 2015. The event logistics will be very similar to last year’s with a vendor reception the evening of November 4 and opportunities to visit with participants during breaks and lunch. During lunch on Wednesday, we will offer a “Tech Teaser” session. This will give vendors the opportunity to pitch their services, new products, etc. during a fast 2 minute time-slot. New this year, we are looking for two associate members to be our “Gold” level sponsors. These companies will be the exclusive sponsors of the Executive Director Reception to be held on Tuesday, November 3 and will receive a higher level of benefits.
To view the brochure and register please click here.
If you have any questions please contact Jill Soenen at events@iamu.org.
Thank you for your continued support!

After receiving positive feedback from the first session, IAMU has scheduled a second session of the Social Media Workshop on Wednesday, August 19. 2015. The workshop will be held at the IAMU Office and Training Complex in Ankeny.
22 persons representing 18 different IAMU members participated in the day-long workshop during its first session on June 10, 2015. The second session will follow the same format.
8:30am-9:30am Registration & Check-In
9:30am-10:30am Social Media-Need and Strategy
In this session, we’ll discuss some of the reasons that cities and utilities should have a presence on social media, and explore which social media outlets are most important. We’ll also discuss how your organization can develop its own social media strategy.
10:30am-10:45am Break
10:45am-11:45am Creating Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn Accounts
If your city does not have a Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn account, we will walk you through the steps to set those accounts up. At the end of this session, your accounts to these three important social media tools will be ready to go!
11:45am-12:45pm Lunch and Networking
12:45pm-1:45pm Automating Your Social Media Messaging
Setting up social media accounts is easy; ensuring that you are keeping content fresh on social media is not. In this session, we’ll show you how to use social media aggregation tool Hootsuite to “create once, distribute many” and to schedule social media posts.
1:45pm-2:00pm Break
2:00pm-3:00pm Introduction To Blogs and RSS Feeds
In this session, we’ll introduce you to blogs and show how the use of blogs and Really Simple Syndication (RSS) can provide you with another powerful way to communicate with your community.
3:00pm-3:30pm Q & A, Wrap Up, and Networking
CLICK HERE to register for the workshop! If you need more information, contact Curtis Dean at IAMU. cdean@iamu.org or 515-289-1999.
