Andrew Preston has joined IAMU as an Electric Training Specialist.
Andrew
completed the Powerline Tech Program at Marshalltown Community College
and completed the IAMU apprenticeship program to become a Certified
Journeyman Lineman.
Andrew’s career began as a Seabee with the
United States Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge, he began
his professional career in the construction industry. After a couple
years, he joined Alliant Energy as a Line Mechanic Apprentice and his
career in the electric utility industry began to unfold. His employment
with Alliant Energy took him to Belmond, Perry, and Mason City.
After
several years with Alliant Energy, he went to work for Franklin County
REC as a Line Apprentice and received his Journeyman certificate there.
His responsibilities included troubleshooting outages, training
apprentices in safe work practices, inventory management and building
powerlines as new construction or replacing existing structures.
Andrew’s
most recent employer was the City of Ames as a Journeyman Lineman. He
worked as a member of the line operations crew serving the community of
Ames. Attention to safe work practices and maintaining continuity of
service safely, were key goals of the line operations crew.
Through
his military service and employment with Alliant Energy, Franklin County
REC and the City of Ames, Andrew developed a strong commitment to
safety, a love of training and the technical expertise required to be an
integral member of the electric utility industry. We are excited to
have Andrew join the IAMU team and share his knowledge and expertise
with our members.
Andrew will be spending time in the office to onboard and train. Please introduce yourself and welcome him to IAMU.
