The purpose of this second stakeholder meeting is to provide an update on the work of the subcommittees, the direction they are moving related to these materials, and to receive feedback from the stakeholder group. SMM Phase I was completed in 2019 and gathered input from a broad set of stakeholders and produced a number of initial guidance documents (click here for additional information on Phase I). SMM Phase II will embrace the "Systems Thinking" approach established during Phase I by creating specific strategies to transform how Iowa manages waste and materials through integrating technology, infrastructure, policies, funding, and metrics. Phase II will promote a sense of collective responsibility to prevent environmental degradation through waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. Finally, Phase II will visualize and solidify a market-driven, closed-loop system for creating commodities from waste in Iowa.
Digital invitations with additional information will be sent out by the first week in September.
