Ahlers & Cooney's Tim Whipple, and IAMU Executive Director Troy DeJoode will be hosting a free continuing legal education opportunity in advance of the  Iowa Municipal Attorneys Association (IMAA) Annual Continuing Legal Education Seminar. The continuing education will be from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Johnston.

The session will explore some of the most common utility related issues seen by IAMU staff, including those issues affecting city utilities, as well as some issues affecting city interactions with other utilities. Drawing from real-world questions and challenges faced by Iowa’s municipalities planned topics include:

1. Service Rules Updates
2. Municipal Utility Rates & Fees
3. Deposits, Billing, Collections & Disconnection
4. Franchise Agreements
5. Utility Board & Council Separation & Cooperation

Registration is free to IMAA members. Heavy appetizers and drinks will be provided by IAMU. Space may be limited so registration is highly encouraged to ensure adequate refreshments are available. However, registration at the door will be allowed if space permits. 

There will be an opportunity for questions at the event. However, if registrants have specific questions they'd like to submit, that is greatly appreciated. Submissions can be made to aulrich@iamu.org.
