On Oct. 9th, 2025, the DNR mailed out a reminder letter for the required annual public notice. This letter was sent to only water systems the DNR has record of having service lines identified as Lead, Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR), or Unknown. This is the same public notice that systems would have sent out to customers last year after submitting their inventory. The deadline for this year’s notice to be sent out is November 15th, 2025. Below is the letter that water systems would have received in the mail if they are required to send out the annual public notice:

SUBJECT: Reminder – Service Line Material Public Notice Required under the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions by November 15th

Dear  WATER SUPPLY [PWS ID],
This letter serves as a reminder of the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) requirement related to customer notification of service line materials. Under the LCRR, all community and non-transient, non-community water systems must provide public notice to customers whose service lines are identified in their inventory as:
●Lead
●Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR)
●Unknown (could be lead)

Your water supply has reported one or more service lines that fall into these categories. Therefore, you are required to send the appropriate public notice to each home or building with a lead, GRR, or unknown service line.
You are not required to provide notices for service lines that are fully identified as non-lead (e.g., copper, plastic, or other confirmed non-lead materials).

Please contact your permit writer if your inventory has changed since 10/16/2024 and you need to submit an updated inventory to correct the number and type of public notices needed.

Next Steps for Compliance:

1. Distribute the appropriate notices to all customers with service lines identified as lead, GRR, or unknown.  Deadline: November 15, 2025
2. Complete and submit the certification form, including one example of the notice that was sent.
