The Midwest Municipal Transmission Group (MMTG) was formed by Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois municipal utilities in 2003 to advocate for recognition of existing municipal transmission as well as advocate for ongoing new municipal joint transmission ownership. Revenue from transmission enables municipal utilities to offset rising transmission costs. In 2005 MMTG became a 501.C.3. nonprofit corporation. MMTG is governed by a volunteer board of directors from its membership.
MMTG has successfully obtained transmission ownership opportunities for its members in CAPX 2020 projects in Minnesota and in IPPA projects in Iowa. MMTG is a member of the Transmission Access Policy Study Group (TAPS) to advocate for municipal utilities regarding Federal transmission policy, and works with other Midwest municipal utilities to monitor regional transmission policies. |
