Energy Services Specialist

The Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities (IAMU) is currently seeking a member-focused, innovative, and results-oriented Energy Services Specialist.

The Energy Services Specialist will:

  • serve as the subject matter expert for IAMU staff and members on distributed generation, renewable energy, and energy efficiency
  • help promote and manage IAMU programs relating to member education on distributed generation, renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • assist members with industry related regulatory filings as needed.

A bachelor’s degree is required with a degree in engineering preferred, but not required. Any combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered. The ideal candidate will have extensive understanding of the electric utility industry, including its regulatory structure, distributed and utility grade renewable energy and energy efficiency. Experience with municipal utilities is also a plus.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter capable of managing multiple projects at once and have excellent written & verbal communications skills. The Energy Services Specialist is required to work collaboratively across functional areas in order to serve the needs of IAMU’s members. Overnight travel is required a few times a year and is typically planned well in advance. The Energy Services Specialist reports to the Executive Director.

IAMU represents more than 550 municipal electric, gas, water and broadband utilities statewide, and maintains a marketing relationship with a large number of associate member businesses. IAMU offers its members advocacy, education and operations support and services with a variety of programs.

Apprentice - Journeyman

Muscatine Power and Water is accepting applications for Lineman - Apprentice through Journeyman.  We are looking for candidates to help us continue the tradition of providing reliable electric service.  Our line crews are responsible for the maintenance and construction of an overhead and underground transmission and distribution system in our 24-square mile service territory.

Minimum apprentice qualifications include:

  • Graduate of powerline program or previous apprentice lineman work experience
  • Pole climbing experience
  • Ability to complete the company’s Apprenticeship and Training Program and on-the-job training to become a journeyman lineman 

Requirements for all candidates include:

  • Ability to work safely, communicate effectively, work in high or confined spaces, and operate heavy construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground materials, the fundamentals of electricity, and the mechanical principles as applied to rigging and the operation of tools and equipment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver’s license.  Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within six months of employment.
  • Compliance with our residency policy within six months of employment to accommodate standby requirements.

Telecommunications Technician

Muscatine Power & Water’s Telecommunications utility is IMMEDIATELY seeking team-oriented, customer-focused Telecommunications Technicians to perform telecommunications system installations and associated tasks, including drop buries, minor troubleshooting, and repair/replacement of wiring, converters, modems and other system devices. The position will work with customers in performing installations, upgrades, and downgrades of service, including installation and setup of digital set-top boxes, cable modem, and PCs for Internet access and customer-owned equipment (VCRs, DVRs etc). 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be able to operate diagnostic test equipment, including signal level and volt/ohm meters to troubleshoot service issues.
  • Minimum 1 year of education and work experience or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with computer software & hardware, ability to read and interpret design schematics of telecommunications system, and home-networking experience preferred.
  • Must be able to safely climb up to 28’ extension ladders, 12’ step ladders, and work from elevated platform or bucket trucks up to 50’, as well as work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license with chauffeur’s designation or able to acquire Chauffeur’s designation within 90 days of hire required.
  • Must be available for overtime, with ability to work flexible hours as required/needed. This position requires ability to be on rotation for standby and primary residence maintained according to terms of MP&W Residency Policy.
  • Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) a plus.

Chief Financial Officer

Algona Municipal Utilities is seeking an experienced person for the position of Chief Financial Officer.  The successful candidate will be responsible for financial and accounting operations of the Utility under the direction of the General Manager.  Responsibilities include managing staff responsible for functions of payroll, accounts payable, purchasing, fixed assets, general ledger, and cost accounting systems. The position will develop budgets and monthly reports for the Board and General Manager and provide assistance in long-range planning.  The CFO will also oversee positions in the Business Office and serves as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of human resources practices and procedures; be familiar with computerized billing and accounting systems for water, electric, and communications utilities; an accrual accounting system; and compilation and maintenance of records of the Utility. A candidate should have proven experience and strong knowledge of the fundamental principles of accounting with specific knowledge of FERC chart of accounts and accounting that is related to municipal utilities.  Qualifications include a bachelors degree in accounting/business or related field; CPA certification preferred; 3-5 years of financial management experience (utility experience preferred); and excellent communication, organizational, teamwork and analytical skills. Utility Line worker

The Bancroft Municipal Utility and the City of Bancroft are currently looking to fill the position of Utility Line Worker. The utility is seeking an experienced individual to work on electric lines, water and sewer systems. Three or more years experience working with high voltage lines and experience working with large scale generators is preferred.

  • Day to day operation and maintenance of utility electrical distribution system
  • Operation of diesel generators as needed
  • Working with other staff to Maintain a continuous, up-to-date inventory of all goods and supplies
  • Assist with all record keeping relating to municipal utilities operations
  • Assist with the completion of all regular reports including those required by state and federal agencies, NIMECA, the city council, and others as needed
  • Assist with water and wastewater systems
  • Assist the Street Superintendent to assure all duties related to streets and parks are completed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job consists of a 40-hour workweek. Monday through Friday. However, during system disturbances and emergencies, longer hours will be required. Applicant must be willing to accept scheduled “on call” basis for weeknights and weekends, generally every other weekend, and have the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in public contacts. Applicant must reside in the City of Bancroft or other location as approved by the Bancroft City Council. A candidate should have successfully completed a formal technical training program for utility line workers; graduated from an accredited high school or a vocational school; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Desired Qualifications for this position include:

  • A minimum of 3 years experience as an utility line worker.
  • Prefer certifications in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater Licensure. If hire lacks these credentials, employer expects candidate to secure these within a reasonable time frame agreed upon at time of hire.

Indianola Municipal Utilities Telecommunications Hut Project

Indianola Municipal Utilities is soliciting bids for a Precast Concrete Shelter with the linked specifications, services and project management. Items 1-8 to be bid as a package.

Bidders must schedule a Site visit prior to submitting a bid to become familiar with and satisfied as to the general, local and Site conditions that may affect cost, progress and performance of the Work.
