The Utilities General Manager oversees all aspects of the utility including electric and water distribution and business communication, under the direction of the Board of Public Works. Essential duties and responsibilities require candidate to proactively communicate with the Board on matters of policy, regulatory and community interest; manage power supply (WAPA and Missouri River Energy Services are our providers), supervise the experienced operations, finance, customer service teams, and manage capital assets. Operational skill and solid PR skills will lead to success.

Required skills and experience include: demonstrated success and experience in Electrical and/or Water Distribution Systems, including supervising, directing and evaluating personnel; a four-year college degree in one of the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math), or finance / accounting, or a closely related discipline, AND at least five years of relevant/equivalent experience in the electric and/or water utility field with a track record of advancement and success.

Desired skills, experience and training includes: a minimum of five years of experience in the direct assignment and supervision of electrical and water distribution systems or maintenance forces; operational qualifications such as certifications in the electric and water utility field, experience and competence with computer systems in understanding their use and information output for billing, accounting and operations management.

Business Intelligence Developer

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a Business Intelligence Developer to join the team in Cedar Rapids, IA. This position is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting the company’s databases, data warehouse and the development of business intelligence solutions. This position will apply business intelligence and analytics subject matter expertise (ETL, data modeling, data integration and BI development) to provide the business with the tools and data representations which allow informed organizational decision-making. 


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Partner with CIPCO personnel to understand and document business requirements and translate those into technical specifications for informational needs.
  • Design, develop and maintain database architecture and business intelligence tools.
  • Develop ETL processes to support data integration into data warehouse ensuring high data quality.
  • Systematically implement and support data governance processes ensuring availability, usability, integrity and security to the appropriate personnel.
  • Perform ad hoc data mining from within centralized data warehouse or externally in response to inquiries across departments.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation on database and business intelligence architecture.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues relating to database performance and optimization.

Requirements and Critical Success Factors

  • Experience with database and data warehouse designs, data modeling, data integrations, database tuning and business intelligence reporting and visualization tools (SSAS, SSRS, Power BI, Cognos, Crystal Reports)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

DUTIES SUMMARY

Performs all overhead and underground electrical work involved in the construction, maintenance and operation of the electric transmission and distribution systems. Also performs construction and maintenance of overhead and underground cable communications systems

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Work under general supervision with some independent discretion, while performing a variety of skilled duties; subject to emergency service work.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Works with electric hot line equipment and tools; performs line maintenance and emergency work; climbs poles, installs hardware, connects transformer banks, fuses transformers, pulls wires, lays cable and other necessary work.

Ties in conductors and changes insulators; works on overhead and underground electric circuits; operates overhead and underground construction and maintenance equipment when necessary.

Keeps time and work records; participates in rotating on-call duty as assigned; performs tree trimming work and Line Crew Leader duties as assigned; has working knowledge to install communication conduit, messenger, and cable; and performs other duties as assigned.  

Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes positive relations with customers, co-workers and management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  A thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment and tools used in the erection, maintenance and repair of electric and communications lines; must possess a basic knowledge of electrical theory; skill in the proper use of line worker’s tools; and a thorough knowledge of occupational hazards connected with the work.

Ability to: Climb poles and towers, and to perform all aspects of electric transmission and distribution construction and maintenance work; read and understand electrical maps, diagrams, and work procedures and to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Education/Experience: Completion of an approved correspondence course or formal technical training for utility line workers; graduation from an accredited high school or a vocational school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the ability to perform the job functions as defined.

Certifications/License: Required to have good driving record and valid Iowa driver’s license; Must maintain a valid Iowa Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class A.

Residency: Must meet CFU residency requirements.

PHYSICAL TASKS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are characteristic of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The employee must occasionally lift at least 75 pounds, be alert to ergonomic hazards and possess the capability to climb ladders and/or stairs.  The employee must also be capable of working in conditions with rough terrain and awkward/difficult positions.  This job requires a moderate to strenuous activity level. 

This position requires a hearing exam and a pulmonary lung function test, which is required for respirator use. May be required to be fit-tested for use of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

Executive Director

The South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems (SDARWS) is seeking its next Executive Director - a leader with high integrity, transparent and open communications, and the ability to enthusiastically convey the organization's vision to staff, members, constituents and vendors.

SDARWS exists to promote the growth and development of rural water throughout South Dakota, and to manage the association's daily operations. The Executive Director will participate in legislative and rule-making activities at the state and federal levels, will oversee public relations, association development, member services, and will provide direct supervision and support of association staff. The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors of the South Dakota Association of Rural Water Systems and NRWA.

Responsibilities include:

Leadership

  • Serve as chief lobbyist and public relations contact; act in the interest of and at the direction of the Board
  • Maintain awareness of activities on state and federal levels that affect Association business
  • Attend water policy board meetings, DENR, BWM, Summer Study Committees, other water association meetings, and special water meetings as they develop

  • Continually build, activate, engage, refresh and communicate with the Board of Directors, including acting as a professional advisor to the Board on all aspects of the Association’s activities

  • Along with the Board, maintain financial transparency and stability of the Association and exercise strong stewardship of resources: ensure that bookkeeping and accounting standards are met by the Association; administer funds according to the approved budget and monitor case flow on a monthly basis
  • Create an effective, enjoyable, and results-oriented working environment for employees
  • Hire, train, and supervise a competent staff. Provide reviews, feedback, and coaching as needed
  • Execute appropriate leases, contracts and agreements to provide for Association office space, and for the proper care, cleaning, and repair of office and field equipment
  • Conduct staff meetings as necessary; establish scheduled reporting procedures for all staff
  • Document activities and report to SDARWS Board of Directors as required
  • Provide SDARWS and NRWA with a budget, work plan and an annual Operating Plan

Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $90,000 to $115,000 depending on experience.

Administrative Assistant I-III (Customer Service)

Muscatine Power and Water is seeking an Administrative Assistant to support Customer Services.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greet the public promptly in a polite manner and direct to the proper department, following established Utility security policies including identity verification. Answer customer’s inquiries related to light bulb exchange, rebate applications, or other general topics as appropriate. Manage the customer flow in the lobby.
  • Assist with submitting customer’s bills to the Utility’s online bill payment and presentment company, including the review and approval of the bills after initial processing.
  • Prepare all correspondence for the Customer Services department or other departments as assigned. This includes collection and deposit letters, credit references, meter reading requests, etc., and may be accomplished using various interfaces with the billing system and report writers.
  • Support the Outside Services Supervisor with data entry of readings and the creation of service orders and customer correspondence as it relates to meter routines/exchanges, fourth month estimates, etc.

Associate’s Degree preferred; combination of education and experience will be considered. Journeyman Substation Technician

Muscatine Power and Water has an immediate opening for a Journeyman Substation Technician. Primary responsibilities include performing weekly and monthly routine substation inspections, maintenance and repair on a variety of breakers, transformers, control systems and traffic controls, as well as reading substation meters. Qualified candidate will perform substation construction, including installation of new equipment and full inspection of contract work. Will conduct high voltage underground cable testing and locating, as well as troubleshooting and repair of miscellaneous electrical systems.

Ideal candidate must have a strong working knowledge of electricity, electronics, and electrical circuits. Good mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematic diagrams required. Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within 6 months, and compliance with MP&W’s Residency Policy required.

Public Works Superintendent

The City of Carlisle, Iowa (2016 Est. Pop. 4,249) is seeking a Public Works Superintendent to provide direction over the Carlisle Public Works (water, sewer, streets) Department. This position reports to the City Administrator. The Public Works Superintendent performs a variety of duties as set forth by law and the City Council to oversee construction and maintenance of transportation, water, and sewer services within the City. The Superintendent oversees the water/sewer, and street department staff. The successful candidate shall have a bachelor’s degree in public administration, civil engineering or other related field, or at least five years of increasingly responsible professional experience in a public works related experience. Must have a minimum of a Grade 2 certification in water treatment, water distribution and wastewater treatment, or the ability to obtain such certification within an agreed upon timeframe. Candidates subject to pre-employment physical, drug testing, criminal history, background check and be bondable. Annual salary range $65,000 to $70,000. Project - Indianola Municipal Utilities - New Line Shop

Sealed proposals will be received by the Board of Trustees of Indianola Municipal Utilities (IMU) (Owner) and/or Construction Manager – Downing Construction at the City Clerk’s Office located at 110 N. First St, Indianola, IA, Attention: City Clerk on or before the 1st day of February, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Bids will be opened at 2:00 PM the same day in the City of Indianola Council Chambers located (located at the same address) for furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment for Work Packages (01) thru (10) as described in detail in this Notice to Bidders and plans and specifications for the project. Proposals will be acted upon by the Board of Trustees at a meeting to be held in the Council Chambers of the Indianola Municipal Building at 5:30 P.M. local time on February 12, 2018 or at such later time and place as may then be fixed.
