What is FirstNet:
Signed into law on February 22, 2012, the Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act created the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet). The law gives FirstNet the mission to build, operate and maintain the first high-speed, nationwide wireless broadband network dedicated to public safety. FirstNet will provide a single interoperable platform for emergency and daily public safety communications.
How: The Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board (ISICSB) will be conducting a series of surveys and meetings related to the deployment of FirstNet within Iowa. Additionally these regional meetings will establish the creation of Regional Interoperability Committees (RICs) within each of the six Iowa Homeland Security Regions.
The workshops will expand on the discussion that occurred at the first round of FirstNet outreach meetings which took place in all 99 counties. Attendees will receive an update on the progress of FirstNet at the federal and state levels, the workshop will also have a series of table top exercises that involve how FirstNet will operate to enhance your Land Mobile Radio (LMR) system to be part of the overall public safety communications solution.
